Quick update

Well, it’s been a couple of weeks since my last post. Things have become very busy. I am working on fulfilling one of my New Year’s Resolutions–to complete one of my language requirements. In order to do this, I have been going to French for Reading Monday-Friday, 9-noon. And then I work from 1-7. OnContinue reading “Quick update”

Running into Mystery

Just finished my first full week of training for the Victoria Half Marathon after getting over the issue with my calf. It was a kind of tough week, only 36.8 miles, but it included intervals and a tempo run. This is the first time doing interval training in a very (very) long time. I didContinue reading “Running into Mystery”

A Long Obedience in the Same Direction

I’m not sure what to do, but I figured I should keep up the idea of posting a weekly something here. It just feels odd not having a training update. This past week I pretty much did nothing. Hansons Marathon Method recommends taking a full two weeks off from running. One of the things theyContinue reading “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”

Race Recap

It’s Wednesday and my legs are still sore. It’s still tough getting up and down the stairs.  But it is getting better. It was a lot easier getting out of bed this morning than it was on Monday or Tuesday.  Slowly things are getting back to normal. Still, it won’t be until near the endContinue reading “Race Recap”

Last Training Update

As I started to think about this update it occurred to me that this will be the last training update. Next week is the race. The training is finished. Now it’s just a matter of resting, hydrating, eating right, and some easy runs. I’m not sure if this last week was a total taper, butContinue reading “Last Training Update”

Last 20 Mile Run, First Sunday of Lent

Last 50 mile week before the LA Marathon; last 20 mile run before the race; not quite at the taper, but getting close. I must admit I’m ready for the taper. My legs have been tired. Sunday’s 20 mile run was difficult. Mostly, I think, because of the rain. For the last two hours IContinue reading “Last 20 Mile Run, First Sunday of Lent”

The Gift

This week was an easy week. Mostly short runs; twelve miles on Sunday. Got a couple of good rides in as well. All in all, a nice recovery. I’m ready for one more long week, one more final push before the race. But that is only part of this past week’s story. I did getContinue reading “The Gift”

12,235 Calories

According to MapMyRun I burned 12,235 calories exercising last week. That’s a lot of calories. Of course, I realize that this is far from totally accurate. But still… it’s pretty good. For most of the week I felt pretty good. I got two good rides in early in the week. Saturday’s ‘pace’ run was reallyContinue reading “12,235 Calories”

Water. Hope. Life.

January was a good month. I ran just over 176 miles. Feel pretty good about that. This past week was a cut back week, a rest week. I think I needed it. I was starting to slog. Saturday was a ‘pace’ run; I ended up running a little under pace. I may have paid forContinue reading “Water. Hope. Life.”

Long Runs, Love, and My Unfulfilled Self

Week 11 of the training plan is finished. It was a 50 miles week. Sunday’s long run was 20 miles. I have never run that far in my life. It actually felt pretty good. Last week’s 19 miles killed me. This week I was tired (it was 20 miles), but also felt strong the wholeContinue reading “Long Runs, Love, and My Unfulfilled Self”
